HPT Announces Change Of Trustee

Newton, MA (August 29, 2003): Hospitality Properties Trust (NYSE: HPT) today announced that William J. Sheehan resigned as a Trustee of HPT and that Frank J. Bailey was elected as a Trustee to serve the remainder of Mr. Sheehan's term. 


Mr. Sheehan (age 59) has been a trustee of HPT since it became a public company in 1995. During the past five years Mr. Sheehan's principal employment has been with Ian Schrager Hotels LLC (formerly Ian Schrager Hotels, Inc.) serving as Executive Vice President of Finance from 1999 to February 2003 and as Chief Financial Officer before then. Effective in September 2003, Mr. Sheehan will become Director of Internal Audit and Compliance for HPT and for Reit Management & Research LLC, the investment manager of HPT. 


Mr. Bailey (age 48) has been a partner of the Boston based law firm of Sherin & Lodgen LLP for over five years. Mr. Bailey is also a Trustee of Senior Housing Properties Trust (NYSE: SNH), a real estate investment trust, or REIT, which invests in senior housing properties. Mr. Bailey's term as a Trustee of HPT will extend to the HPT annual meeting in 2006. 


Hospitality Properties Trust is a REIT which is headquartered in Newton, MA and which owns 274 hotels located throughout the United States.
